Art of Play Social Posts - Batch 1
I was asked to collaborate with the guys at Art of Play, a company that sells cool desk stuff, things that'll make your table more lively and things you can fiddle with. They also distributed puzzles, I would be lying if I said I wasn't a fan :)
I put the final videos at the end of the project since they are vertical and clutter the space, but here are some gifs of the shots!:
Art of Play sent me some actual products to help my modelling process, since these are product promos they have to be as close to the real thing as possible:
For the animation, Swinging Sticks does not have much to talk about besides keyframes.
But 3D Card Star had some new stuff that I loved doing, especially in scene 2 when the deck was floating up. I used fields in order to control everything, which made it really easy to control.
Soma Cube was also interesting, I had to use dynamics in order to make it look like the blocks are naturally climbing, but I also used follow position and rotation so I can art direct their movements to a certain extent.
What was also interesting was the texture. 3D Card Star had to be incredibly realistic, and that meant a custom bump map that made up those tiny air pockets in the cards. I do love playing cards, so I knew what looked right.
Soma Cube had these lovely gem textures, and I wanted to push them further by making them milky semi-translucent (kinda but not really subsurface) but still shiny with the coating. My computer was killing itself but it looked fantastic.
Here are some of the ungraded styleframes straight from redshift. I'm getting better at lighting in render so I don't have to comp so much... I still needed to comp tho :P
Here are the final videos (I told you it would be cluttery), thank you for watching!
